Expression of Condolence
August 10, 1997

The people of Guam join with all our brothers and sisters as we grieve for the victims and families of the Korean airlines tragedy. Our prayers are with all of you through this terrible time. We cannot imagine the sadness and loss that you must be feeling, but our love and support is extended to each and every one of you. The Korean community has been especially affected by this tragedy.

We are aware of the unique cultural values that must be honored during this crisis. And, I want to assure you that the people of Guam and the government of Guam are doing everything in their power to see that your culture, your feelings, and your people are treated with dignity and respect.

And to the victims, families and survivors of all ethnic backgrounds, Korean, Chamorro, Japanese, Chinese, American and New Zealander, we want you to know that your pain is shared by all of our people.

Many government and private groups have volunteered their time and effort to help the survivors and the families of victims through their ordeal.

From the rescue crews on the scene, to the medical personnel who tended to survivors, to the support staff that is now providing for the needs of families, we are committed to doing everything within our power to meet your needs.

And we will continue to stand by you as your friends and neighbors.

May God bless the victims the survivors, the families and all the people whose lives have been touched by this tragic sadness.
